OEASA Awards Nominations

The OEASA Awards are presented each year at the OEASA Awards Dinner (in August) to recognise the achievements, successes and service of the South Australian Outdoor Education community.

 

Nominations are welcome to be made at any time, by anyone.

 

Nominations must be received before Friday 31st May 2024 to be considered for the 2024 Awards Dinner.

 

Award Nomination Information:

To nominate someone or yourself for an award please fill in the form at the bottom of this page. Award descriptions are listed below. Award nomination requirements, conditions and process are detailed below. One nomination per form only. Please complete a separate nomination form for every nomination that you submit.

The application should state:

  1. Candidate's full name, address, phone number and email if applicable;
  2. Nominator's full name, address, phone number, email and institution(s) they are associated with;
  3. The Award that the candidate is being nominated for with accompanying information for consideration.

 

Conditions:

  1. One candidate nomination per application
  2. Nominator may nominate multiple candidates
  3. The nominator does not need to be an OEASA member
  4. The decision to accept the nominator's recommendation lies with the OEASA committee
  5. Successful awardees will be advised by OEASA, and invited to attend the presentation dinner
  6. Awards may not be awarded in all categories every year

 

Awards:

  1. A certificate will be issued by OEASA, signed by the chair, bearing the OEASA logo
  2. The award will be posted out to candidates that are unable to attend the certificate presentation dinner
  3. Awardees will be provided with state OEASA membership for 12 months
  4. Mark Auricht Award, Tertiary Award and Krish Mosher Award students will be offered membership to the Australian Outdoor Education body, including receipt of the national journal
  5. Mark Auricht Award, Tertiary Award and Kris Mosher Award will be provided with a small prize
  6. All awardees and their friends and family are invited to attend the OEASA Certificate Presentation Dinner, at OEASA member rates
  7. The committee may from time to time provide awardees with limited means with financial assistance to attend
  8. The OEASA tertiary award will also be recognised by UniSA Alumni in the graduation ceremony
  9. All senior secondary, tertiary and professional awardees will be invited to join the OEASA committee

Student Award Categories

 

  • Secondary Education-Certificate of Excellence (Stage 2 Outdoor Education)

Nominated by teachers of Stage 2 Outdoor Education

  1. Achieves a result of 20 (pre-scaling) for Stage 2 Outdoor Education
  2. Demonstrates application to outdoor journeys and/or environmental action
  3. Is a role model for other Outdoor Education students

 

  • Mark Auricht Award (Stage 2 Outdoor Education)

Nominated by the SACE Chief Moderator, Outdoor Education

  1. Achieves the highest mark for Stage 2 Outdoor Education
  2. Demonstrates application to outdoor journeys and/or environmental action
  3. Is a role model for other Outdoor Education students

 

  • VET/TAFE Outdoor Recreation Award 

Nominated by the Program Director, Diploma of Outdoor Recreation

  1. Achieves a high academic standing within the Diploma of Outdoor Recreation
  2. Demonstrates application to outdoor journeys and/or environmental action
  3. Is a role model for other Outdoor Recreation students

 

  • Tertiary Outdoor Education Award

Nominated by the Outdoor Education study stream coordinators at UniSA and Flinders University

  1. Achieves a high academic standing within studies of Outdoor Education
  2. Demonstrates application to outdoor journeys and/or environmental action
  3. Is a role model for other Outdoor Education students

 

  • Certificate of Achievement in Outdoor Education (All students)

Open nomination - Can be nominated by anyone

  1. Demonstrates a high level of application to Outdoor Education studies
  2. Demonstrates application to outdoor journeys and/or environmental action
  3. Is a role model for other Outdoor Education students

 

 

 

Professionals, Volunteers & Programs Award Categories

 

1. Outdoor & Environmental Education - People, Sites and/or Program Awards:

  • Kirinari Primary Education/Educator Award (Open to Primary School Educators and/or Sites)

Open nomination - Can be nominated by anyone

  1. Significant application to outdoor or environmental education
  2. Involvement in outdoor journeys and/or environmental action
  3. Role model for other primary outdoor or environmental education educators/students/sites

 

  • Outdoor Education Program Award (Open to Schools and Organisations)

Inaugural award in 2021

Open nomination - Can be nominated by anyone

  1. Innovative program in its design and implementation
  2. Demonstration of the qualities of an effective OE program
  3. Capacity to continue the program
  4. Address the identified needs of the participants
  5. Evidence of success of the program
  6. Social and environmental responsibility

Outdoor Education Program examples include, but are not limited to:

  • a single, specialised program offered by a school or organisation
  • a suite of programs that form the basis of a school or organisation
  • a program offered by a school or organisation that has been delivered for many years at a consistently high level
  • a program that is sequenced to provide opportunities to participants at various levels

 

2. Service Awards - Professionals and Volunteers:

 

  • Peter Kellett Meritorious Service to Outdoor Education Award

Open nomination - Can be nominated by anyone

  1. Demonstrates significant and sustained application to the provision and improvement of Outdoor Education and/or Outdoor Recreation
  2. Demonstrates significant and sustained impact on the provision, quality or development of Outdoor Education in South Australia
  3. Is a role model for other Outdoor Education/Outdoor Recreation/Environmental Education professionals or volunteers

 

  • Krish Mosher Environmental Education Award

Open nomination - Can be nominated by anyone

  1. Demonstrates significant and sustained contributions to Environmental Education and/or Earth Education and/or Environmental Action
  2. Demonstrates significant and sustained impact on the provision, quality or development of Environmental Education and/or Earth Education and/or Environmental action
  3. Is a role model for other Environmental Education an/or Earth Education and/or Environmental professionals or volunteers

 

  • Service to the Outdoors Award

Open nomination - Can be nominated by anyone

  1. Demonstrates significant contribution to, and achievement in, the outdoor sector as an outdoor professional and/or volunteer
  2. Demonstrates significant and sustained impact on the provision, quality and development of action in the outdoor sector in SA through their own actions & service
  3. Is a role model for other outdoor professionals and/or volunteers

 

3. OEASA Life Member

  1. Demonstrates significant and sustained service to the Outdoor Educators Association of South Australia
  2. Is a role model for other Outdoor Education/Outdoor Recreation/Environmental Education volunteers or professionals
